There is an often expressed sentiment that God cannot allow us experience a challenge that is greater than us. I’m not disputing that notion; nevertheless, current happenings in some people’s life have cast a cloud of doubt over that assertion in their minds. How else do you explain away the situation of a woman who is currently battling to save the life of her 11 month old baby that was diagnosed of having a hole in the heart?
According to the child’s mother, Mrs. Felicia Ajagba, from birth, the baby was always falling sick on a monthly basis. As a result, she was always in and out of the hospital. And finally, she was told that her son Victor has a hole in the heart, and would need about 2.6million naira for the corrective surgery to be carried out in India. She was quite despondent, because raising such an astronomical amount of money is quite beyond her. Mrs Ajagba is a primary school teacher in Isolo earning 12,000 naira(about 60 U.S dollars) as her salary. And she has been absent from her duty post for about six months owing to the precarious condition of her baby, which means she has not been paid a dime for six months. Her husband, Mr. Eleazar Ajagba. who works as a security officer with First Bank has been trying to ensure the family survives, but the burden is much on them.
As Mrs. Ajagba attended the monthly meeting of Voice of Change Network which holds every first Saturday of the month, her case was brought up, and the response was so encouraging as members of the organization brought out the token in their pocket to ensure she could at least buy food for the ailing child. It was a show of love, which has become a culture and lifestyle of the organization .There is however a lot more to be done if this child must go for the surgery. We desperately wish to save his life, and we cannot do it on our own.
We are hereby calling on people with noble hearts, Organizations, and government agencies, to reach out to this family and support them however they wish to. Let’s not forget that every good deed we do for others always come back to pay us in the long run.
