One of the sad dilemmas of contemporary society seems to be a lack of meaning and purpose in our everyday life. Some people are acutely aware that they aren’t fulfilling their potential. They dread Mondays and live for the weekends because they hate their works. Their whole lives seem centered on the only two days they are free from the trapped feeling they experience at work. They long to pursue their own interest and talent.
Others are fairly contented with their lives, but they have a vague sense that there should be more significance to life than they are experiencing. Still others live on a surface level pursuing series of emotional highs that leave them empty and constantly searching for the next thrill that might satisfy them. Neither of these groups of people realize that within them is the key to living a more fulfilling life than they ever imagined
One pertinent question that have always nagged my mind since I grew into the age of consciousness is: Are we born just to go through certain life rituals-find a job, get married, buy a house, raise children, change jobs or careers, retire- and then die. Or is there more to life?
If you ask people, “why do you exist?” Most people cannot tell you. They cannot even explain their purpose in this world. They have no vision for their lives. Our world is filled with people who are busy but not ultimately effective or satisfied. They are doing much, expending time and energy, but getting little of value accomplishment. Consequently they spend their lives toiling away but never making any headway.
For, many of us reading this piece right now. Let me ask you these questions: Do you have a sense of personal purpose? Do you know why you were born? Does your purpose give you a passion for living? In other words, do you really have a reason for your existence? Can you answer any of these questions in the affirmative?
Let me tell you something: Life is intended to have a meaning; you were not born just for the fun of it. If all you have to look forward to after working for years is probably a couple of material possessions- houses, cars and retirement benefits, your life is nothing but a tragedy.
Every human being was created to accomplish something specific that no one else can accomplish. It is crucial for you to understand this truth. You were designed to be known for something special. You are met to do something that will make you unforgettable. You were born to do something that the world will not be able to ignore.
But it is deeply depressing that while we all have been given unique potentials, too many of us bury our life in lesser existence of mundane quest for survival thereby making ourselves a grave yard of God’s precious treasure.
The pertinent question, you need to ask yourself, given your present age is, “what have you done with your life so far?” Have you spent so much time trying to live the kind of life, your parents, friends and society have carved out for you? If so you aren’t doing yourself any favour. You aren’t fulfilling your purpose. In really you are allowing others to rule your life.
What have you done so far that the world can’t forget? How long will you drift along without working towards your purpose? Procrastination can become a full time occupation. Some people are expert at it. They know how to avoid the real issues of life with precisions. They know how to do nothing all day or they know how to do everything except what is really important. It is saddening to be around people who are just existing, but is exciting to be around people who know that they are doing what they were born to do.
I enjoin you therefore, to resist the deception of procrastination. Do not think you have all the time in the world to do what you ought to do now, in line with your purpose? Today-now is the time to live right. Don’t be carried away by the quest for material comfort and possessions. Life- true life is more than your treasured houses and cars-they are mere vanities! After all said and done, the only thing that matters is a life of purpose; a life lived in service to humanity. Herein lies your fulfillment.
Your life is not a divine experiment, but a project of providence to fulfill a purpose that your generation needs. The identification of your personal purpose is the source of your vision and this is what give meaning to your life. I therefore encourage you to connect your passion to your purpose. No wonder Mike Murdock says “what annoys you or what you have a passion for is what you are created for”
Your future is not ahead of you-it lies within you. See beyond your eyes and live for the unseen. The world is waiting for your manifestation!
